19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has endured a difficult season, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his first title following the Rome competition and first on a hard court from March of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and frequent outbursts on court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional victory, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial chances in a close third set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he earned the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
